Snorkelling

We are pleased to announce the successful launch of our new snorkel section.

This new addition to the club (January 2016) welcomes people of all ages and abilities from 8 to 80 yrs old. The only criteria is the ability to swim 50 metres in your own time.

Whether visiting the UK coast line or going abroad for a holiday, if you had ever wondered what life is like under the sea, then this is an opportunity to learn a new skill without using bulky scuba gear. You will be amazed at the life that appears before you. Unlike noisy scuba gear snorkeling allows you to get as close to the marine life as you are comfortable with.

We have our own purpose built training pool for scuba and snorkelling. It has 3 different depth levels to a maximum of 3 metres deep to suit all levels of ability. We are also proud to offer a dedicated training room for lectures and changing rooms with showers, as well as disabled access and facilities.

Our British Sub-Aqua Club qualified instructors are able to offer a range of courses.

Try Snorkel

An hour-long  taster session. We can supply all equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish to become familiar with it before a holiday. The session aims to mix fun, games and safety awareness along with becoming familiar with the basic equipment. The students dictate the pace of the session.

Open to youth organisations such as Cubs, Scouts, Sea Scouts etc who are looking for a new activity over the long winter months or to individuals or family groups preparing to go away on holiday.

On completion, students are presented with a try snorkel pack, which includes details of further courses and a certificate of achievement.

This course introduces snorkelling via a series of seven progressive, fun, pool sessions. Each session is named after a different type of dolphin, and completion of a session results in the award of the corresponding dolphin sticker.

Once students have collected a complete set of dolphin stickers, they are awarded the grade of BSAC Dolphin Snorkeller.

On completion of the course the instructor will inform HQ and a certificate and cloth badge will be presented to the student.

Members must be over 8 years old and should be able to swim 50m unaided. We welcome the young and the young at heart as potential members. You will be asked to fill in a medical declaration form. Fees will be due before the first course starts.
